Tying llamas for shearing
I have had an inquiry, through my own website, from a worried new owner in Arizona about what to expect when her two llamas, both aged two years, are sheared next month. Apparently the two men who are going to do it, tie the legs of the llamas and stretch them out.It sounds horrendous, but is it really bad? The owner hasn't had the llamas long enough to desensitize them so that they accept the shearing, like many of ours and is wondering if there is anything she can do, during the process, to calm them down. Any advice would be welcome.

Re: Tying llamas for shearing
I am afraid that I personally can think of nothing worse than an animal of flight having its legs tied and stretched out for shearing.

Re: Tying llamas for shearing
I have seen that done when shearing Alpacas, but never heard of it for llamas. Would be horrendously traumatic for llamas and owners, I think the best advice would be to try and find an alternative shearer. If not desensitised, then ear twitching although unpleasant would be far less traumatic.

You can already guess my response, Terry. That would be cruelty.
